Quilting Help!

So I'm about to start my first quilt ...Yikes!  (Well, I guess not my first, but might as well call it that!  I'm not a seasoned quilter!)  I want it to be for our bed, our room needs all the help it can get!  (Definatly NOT my favorite room in the house!!)  That said, any tips or recommendations from any of you talented people out there??  I would like to do a monochromatic quilt in pale yellows and cream colors.

I got the idea for it while thumbing through a kraft Foods mag. with Kamiah a few months ago.  Anyway, I saw this picture and thought, "I like the colors in her outfit!  Those could look good in a quilt for our bedroom--yellow's always cherry-- as long as it's not the wrong shade or over powering!  (I like the texture.)
Here are some designs I've found, (not in any particular order) what do you vote I use...

This one (above) I think is one of my favorite ones, the hardest part would be to know what to do for stitching??  Any ideas??

(I think this might be my favorite style- the hexagon.)  found at:

This one I would probably separate the squares with some solid sections.

Well, the easiest ones to do (for a beginner) would be 1. the strip quilt at the bottom then 2. the squares one at the top and then 3. the strip block one after the hexies.
You could definitely do hexies but they are time consuming and you would need a gazillion of them for a bed size. The genie in a bottle one is lots of curved pieces, which could be frustrating.

Whatever you decide -- good luck!

Totally agree w/ Em. Don't do the Genie bottle shapes if this is your first quilt--you'll probably end up wanting to scream.

Go for some easy blocks.

love the second and third ones! Too bad I don't have any tips for you except "Good Luck!" I bet it will be beautiful!

I would recommend folding your new quilt at the bottom of your bed. Use it as your main show piece but not necessarily the entire bed cover. Add some textured pillows a solid comforter, so you don't take away from your cute quilt, and possibly some type of dust skirt. I like 1 & 3, but I'm not good at making quilts. So takes Em's advice on the difficulty level. BTW- I love yellows and creams. It will be such a happy room. Tiffany

I am starting a quilt proect also..My grandma taught me how to hand stitch quilts. I want to make jean quilts for all of them. I actually thought about starting a quilting club...a few sisters have asked about doing something like that for a R.S. group....I dunno...what do you think?
